I heart blouses

As I get *ahem* older, my style is definitely changing. Recently I’ve discovered a love of blouses….it’s probably crept up on me over the last year or so since bagging a couple of wee gems in the sales last year, but now, I’m actively seeking out a floaty blouse everywhere I go! The thing is, they look smart for work, you can throw them on with a pair of jeans and (nine times out of ten) they don’t need ironed and when you have a 6 year old to wash and iron for, anything that lightens that load is a lifesaver!

So the blouse du jour, another sale bargain, this time from Warehouse. I actually coveted this beauty for a while and then forgot about it, so when I popped into Warehouse at lunchtime last week, I was ecstatic when I saw it in the sale reduced from £42 to £20. It’s actually a couple of sizes too big for me, but I think it works having a loose fit and I’m wearing it here with the amazing new skinny jeans I got the same day, also warehouse £45 down to £25.

I don’t wear a lot of colour, so the style of this blouse is perfect for me to experiment with a pop of neon and a print. I even went as far as matching my nails today and you know what, on another wet, grey January Monday, I felt pretty sunny.

Off duty style

On a day off from work, I mostly like to dress pretty casual. I enjoy wearing a dress to work now and again and I’m embracing my new found love of blouses, however on a wet, cold Saturday in January, I’m happiest in my trusty Top Shop skinnies, Top Shop Biker Boots and Miss Selfridge leather jacket.

The hoodie is Top Shop and the grey top is Zara.

Comfy, warm and ideal for trudging round a wet city centre hunting for more bargains in the sales! Which, by the way I did find…. More on that soon!

Pink to make the boys wink….

Well that’s what my gran used to say, however pink is one of my favourite colours and, being that I’m not 8 years old anymore, I don’t wear it that often!

I get my pink fix through the occasional accessory, but mostly it’s my nails. On a dreary Monday I was wearing a navy dress from ASOS and added a pop of pink with this Rimmel nail varnish, Hot Shot and pink lips courtesy of Bare Minerals.

Oh and you can see the phone cover….

Pink, not to make the boys wink, just to brighten my day.

Globe style

Award season is here and last night LA saw the stars of the big and small screen, take to the red carpet for the 71st Golden Globe Awards.  I love the day after an awards ceremony when you log on for your daily news, to be met by photos of Hollywoods finest in, well their finest!  And, for a change, us girls are not swooning over Gosling, more going Gaga for Gucci, Armani Prive and every custom creation going.

Here are my hands down, no questions asked, favourite looks from last night.

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad

I love this dress, it’s as edgy as it elegant and on a night where colour was in abundance, this metallic number really stood out from the crowd.

Next up, Catt Sadler in a Paolo Sebastian custom dress

This dress is literally to die for. Catt, an anchor on E! Entertainment was covering the red carpet for E! But I think she was owning it in this! Check out the detail on this custom made beauty! Just flawless.

So these dresses do not come cheap, but, for those of us without a stylist and loan of beautiful couture at our finger tips, we can admire, dream and drool, and it ain’t over Gosling….

Date night

Date night with the boyfriend. You’ve mentally run through your wardrobe, decided what you’re going to wear, done your preening, primping and making yourself purty, then, the outfit goes on and you hate it! Nothing sits right, you don’t feel comfortable and you’re back to the drawing board!

Well that was me last night, the pre planned outfit went out the window and last minute I was throwing on my go to outfit, Top Shop skinny jeans, my new Top Shop desert ankle boots (another sale purchase £62 down to £32) and a Top Shop vest from about 3 years ago!

Simple, comfy and perfect for dinner with the other half. I also threw on a wee Top Shop denim jacket to keep warm!

So the key to a good date night outfit; you must feel good or you’re not going to relax and enjoy your night! So don’t be scared to through your planned look out the window and go with your last minute option, it may be the best!

Oh and can you tell I like Top Shop….

Parker style

I mentioned I found a few bargains in the sales and here is another of my favourite buys. The Parker, a jacket I’ve coveted for a while now and when the January sales rolled in I went on the hunt. I tried on A LOT of parkers, many with furry hoods, but I settled on this one from Oasis. It was reduced from £79 to £50, so a decent buy for a jacket that I think will stand the test of time.

Winter into Spring, ill be wearing this with my skinny jeans and cons and come festival season, I dare say shorts and wellies!

Winter warmer

I love a good scarf. You can change your whole look with a nice print or like this one above, just keep warm! It does help that I love it too!

This oversized grey wool scarf was £7.99 from H&M. A great price for a classic scarf I’m sure I’ll be wearing for many winters to come.

And whilst I’m on the subject of winter accessories, I’m all about the beanie this season. Not only does it keep your ears warm on a cold day, but hides any sort of bad hair day you may be suffering from!! This grey one, I think again from H&M has been a godsend!
